Have you ever purchased a candle and have just
not been satisfied with the way it burned? Either you couldn't
smell it after you lit it or it burned down the center leaving a
lot of extra wax (and money) on the sides.
By following the few instructions below you will
have a better candle burning experience whether it is my candle
or someone else's. |
All Candles
-
Never EVER leave a
burning candle unattended!!! I have seen too many news
reports of house fires being caused by someone lighting a candle
and going to sleep while it was still burning !
-
Do not burn in drafts
or high traffic areas, this could cause your candle to burn
unevenly.
-
Do not burn near or on
flammable materials, always use a heat safe candle holder and
place on a solid surface.
-
Never blow your candle
out ! Not only do you get the black smoke and destroy the
fragrance that came from the candle but you risk blowing hot wax
off the candle onto your personal belongings. Take a non flammable
item or wick dipper and dip the wick into the melted gel or wax to
extinguish the flame. Voila! No black smoke and no awful smell.
Wax Candles
Votives
-
Burn in a tight
fitting container
-
Trim the wick to 1/4
inch before the first burn and keep wick trimmed to 1/4 inch for
all other burnings.
-
Discontinue burning
your candle when 1/4 inch of wax remains. DO NOT allow the candle
to burn dry.
Pillars
-
Burn on a heat
resistant holder
-
Burn on a stable
surface
-
Burn for 1 hour per
diameter inch of candle, you may need to 'hug' the candle to allow
for an even melt. Gently squeeze the sides in towards the melt
pool.
-
Trim wick to 1/4 inch
before lighting. If you see black smoke after you have been
burning the candle for awhile, that indicates that the wick is too
long and needs to be
trimmed back to 1/4 inch. Extinguish
candle by dipping the wick with a non flammable item, allow wax to
re-harden and then trim wick.
Containers
-
If the candle is cold,
let it come to room temperature
before lighting.
-
Do not move candle
during burning.
-
Burn on a heat
resistant surface.
-
Recommended burn time
is 3-4 hours, candles not burned according to instructions may not
burn properly or as long as approximated.
Gel Candles
-
Do not burn for more
than 4 hours at a time.
-
Trim the wick to 1/4
inch before lighting and then keep the wick trimmed to 1/8
inch after that.
-
Embeds, other than
wax, need to be removed when they become exposed. Extinguish the
flame and allow gel to cool before attempting to remove embeds.
-
In shipping gels
during the cold months it may be 'cloudy' when you get it. Please
allow it to come back to room temperature and it will clear up.
